Most of the time, its faster to attach the laptop directly to the printer. 3.
It's more like a wireless USB extender. Here's why I don't recommend it:1.
As other reviewers have noted, this is not a "print server" per se. If you print from multiple computers, only the first connected will be able to print.
Special software needs to be installed on each computer in order to connect.2. It only supports one PC/Laptop at a time.
Perhaps the most frustrating aspect is that the reliability is poor - that is, it constantly needs to be reset. I have not spent any time with firmware updates or troubleshooting, but shouldn't have to.It could be ok if you have just one computer and a lot of patience, otherwise save yourself the headache and spend the extra money for a bona fide print server.
Though my printer was listed as supported by this device, it would not work (using WIndows XP Pro). I tired it my new computer with Windows 7 and could not even load the software. So all in all, a big waste of money.
Initially, I bought the HP Wireless Printer Upgrade kit connection from HP. I manually configured the wireless connection to my router and did not use the utility. My wireless Photosmart 3310 was in a closet in order to free up desk space and I wanted the Laserjet to reside there as well. Our home network had a desktop computer hardwired and a PS3 and several laptops wirelessly hooked up to a US Robotics router. Best of all, this little gem has not dropped the signal in over a week of use. I purchased an MSI Wireless-G USB2.0 Adapter which configured in a flash on my desktop after loading the drivers off the disc.
There is probably a good reason HP no longer sells this product on their site.I moved my router and modem to the closet with both printers and connected the Laserjet direct to the router's USB printer port.
Even when first installed, it was constantly dropping off line.
Oddly, although initially concerned about my performance, it does appear that the wireless connection is faster than the old wired Ethernet connection from my desktop.
Several months ago, I added a Laserjet 2100M printer to our home.
It came on immediately, providing me with a strong signal.
I finally got so upset with its unreliability, I pulled the Laserjet out of the closet.
With the unit right next to my desktop computer, the HP wireless signal would drop every couple of minutes and you could see the strength varying from good, fair and poor repeatedly.
I don't have actual performance data but it appears at least to be a significant perceptual improvement.
My desk area is also a little neater without the router and modem unsightliness.
I just order my second HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit. 500 pages per week).I really like the product, but don't intend to purchase a third device next year. If you don't following the procedure exactly, it won't work.I found it as easy to use as selecting a printer from the print menu.
This, I think, is its worst drawback. For those that reported trouble, it may be directly related to either the computer, operating system (Vista has some serious problems) or the printer. As others have noted, it lasts about a year before it dies.
I used the device on a Dell Inspiron 600M notebook running Windows XP Professional (through a docking station) with the HP 1022 Laser Jet. I found the setup straightforward, if you read and reread the instructions. The order of steps in installation is key to success.
But I had no difficulty at all and used the printer for fairly heavy printing (approx. By then, I'll replace the printer.
Don't panic. It will find your printer adapter showing the device connected to it.13. Choose to reinstall the program and Windows 7 will pop-up the permission request.9. Download and install the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Basic Software/Drivers (Computer Purchased with Windows Vista Operating System) 2. If you would like to have the document, please drop me a note to send it to you.
1. 15. Unfortunately I can't attach files here as I had created an Office document with screenshots to make it easier to follow. :smileytongue:4.
After allowing, the installation files will be extracted again.10. At the end of the installation an HTML page is launched saying: You need to install the printer software before you can use your printer. When the installation reaches 90% on the top bar and 10% at the bottom bar it will hang.3. Right mouse click on the taskbar and start the Task Manager.5. If the P&P doesn't find the driver or does not kick in you can try with Windows update, if the driver is there it will be installed, otherwise use the CD you might have.16.
[.].Hi @ll,I have just created a work around to install the driver correctly on a Windows 7 machine, done these steps on two machines and it works perfectly.Just follow the following steps. You will see the Welcome screen again.11. Click on install, select I agree, Next.12. Click on Next and the installation continues.14. Stop the process called Setupwizard.exe7. Start e.g. In order to install the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit in Windows 7 please do the following.
Microsoft Office Word 2007 and send a print job and from the drop down menu you can select the printer which was installed.17. Select the Wireless Printing upgrade kit in the Applications tab and right mouse click it and select Go to Process.6. You will get the following pop-up mentioning that the program probably was not correctly installed and that you have two choices to select from: Reinstall with recommended settings and This program is correctly installed.8. After that just right mouse click on the connection manager at the taskbar, select Connect and the Plug and Play will install the printer driver as if the printer was directly connected to the PC. Scanning also works I used Microsoft Office Document Imaging to scan from the PSC 2210.
